National NGO Program on Humanitarian Leadership: NNPHL.12, Kenya + Somalia

The National NGO Program on Humanitarian Leadership (NNPHL) is delighted to announce that we are now accepting applications for the NNPHL.12 Leadership Training Program, Kenya + Somalia.

The deadline for applications is January 12, 2022.

PLEASE NOTE: Pending global COVID-19 regulations and guidance, this program will have an in-person intensive leadership training component in Nairobi, Kenya from March 14 – 18, 2022. All accepted applicants will be required to have received the COVID-19 vaccine series and/or submit to COVID-19 testing before participating in the training. Additional information and further instructions will be provided for those applicants who are selected to participate in the cohort. Should the COVID-19 situation not allow for in-person convening, the intensive leadership training component will be conducted entirely remotely.

For the NNPHL.12 Leadership Training course, NNPHL will prioritize applications from exemplary, mid-level career humanitarian professionals working for non-governmental or community-based organizations in humanitarian settings in Kenya + Somalia. NNPHL will prioritize humanitarians working for national NGOs and community-based organizations. Please note that this program will only be taught in English.

NNPHL Leadership Training is designed for exemplary, mid-level career, full-time humanitarian professionals working for non-governmental or community-based organizations in humanitarian settings. All participants of NNPHL will meet a standard set of minimum requirements:

  • Must have reached a mid-level position in a non-governmental or community-based organization
  • Professional experience in at least one or more humanitarian emergency situations
  • Must be able to demonstrate management experience (i.e., managing a team)
  • Must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing leadership roles in the humanitarian sector
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English with proficiency
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree or a comparable academic or professional qualification
  • Must be available to participate the course (including the remote training, distance learning and experiential learning highlighted above)
  • Must have the permission of your employer to participate in all aspects of the program

Please note that expatriate staff are not eligible for NNPHL blended learning courses, nor are professionals working at UN agencies or government affiliated organizations. However, all are welcome to register for the NNPHL Online Course, which is available to everyone at no cost.

ARE THERE OTHER SELECTION CRITERIA?

  • With a focus on strengthening the leadership capacity of national level staff, NNPHL will prioritize candidates working with national NGOs and community-based organizations. A limited number of spots will be available for national staff working at international NGOs.
  • For each regional workshop, NNPHL will only accept applicants from the corresponding region. Please read the Eligibility Requirements above and ensure that you meet the criteria before applying.
  • Please note that expatriate staff are not eligible for NNPHL blended learning courses, nor are professionals working at UN agencies or government affiliated organizations. However, the NNPHL Online Course is available to everyone at no cost.
  • NNPHL has a commitment to maintaining a gender balance for each iteration of the course and ensuring that women have improved access to leadership training. For that reason, we especially encourage women humanitarian professionals to apply for the program. For more information about NNPHL’s eligibility requirements, please see the FAQ.

How to register:

Applications are due January 12th, 2022.

The online application does not allow you to save your work and return to the application at a later time. Partial applications will not be considered so make sure to answer every question. We recommend that you copy the short-answer essay questions below and save them on a Word document. When you are ready to submit your application, copy and paste your answers to the online application. We can only accept applications submitted online through RecruiterBox.

Two supporting documents are required and must be submitted at the time of application: 1) a one to two page resume or CV, and 2) a letter of reference from your current or most recent manager highlighting your suitability to participate in NNPHL.
